Mall Galleries, London
The Opening Reception took place during the evening of Tuesday 22 February 2000. The Mall Galleries were filled with over 400 guests, including many artists from around the world who had participated in the competition. Speeches were given by Ronald Maddox, one of the international judges of the competition; John Sheeran, Curator of the exhibition; and Steve Pleune, Managing Director of Winsor & Newton. 120 paintings were displayed throughout the galleries, each accompanied by a picture text panel giving information on the artist and the picture. One of the exhibition galleries was specially converted into a studio space where art master classes in drawing and painting were led by notable British artists throughout the duration of the exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition recorded their comments in a visitors book. The following is a selection of their comments:

As one of the artists says - I like nature because therein lies absolute truth! this exhibition is a global and soulful encounter.
Amanda Burton
What a lot of profound works. If only politicians would listen to the people.
Pat Wilson
Particularly appreciated the inclusion of quotations from the artists giving some of their rationale and giving us a good insight. Congratulations on the scale of this very challenging venture an enormous inspiration.

Stunning, inspiring, this is my third visit.
Trevor Thomas
Superb exhibition, most thought provoking. I came two days and it is good fortune I happened to be in London. Oh that it could be displayed for longer. There are so many people I know who would love to see such a fabulous variety of art from all over the world.
Rosemary Gunn
Awe inspiring. Wonderful.
Brenda and David Slade
A wonderful representation of the cultural diversity of our world.

Classes in drawing and painting during the exhibition
A brilliant vision "Our World in the Year 2000" by Winsor & Newton has drawn from the artists profound comments on our world and what humans are doing to it. Their stark and dramatic comments fill one with hope that human beings have heart and hope filled vision. An exhibition that should stand for a century or more.
Richard Channer
I feel humbled, speechless and inspired.
