Stuart Pearson Wright was born in England in 1975 and studied at the Slade School of Art, London. The artist comments: ‘I believe an understanding of the human condition can be obtained only from close scrutiny of the banal and everyday, from one’s surroundings, wherever they may be. I take great interest in the transient nature of all things and in the fact of mortality. Old age as a manifestation of mortality and the passing of time is something that affects every human being and is therefore something that can draw us together as a species. The plight of elderly people as some of the most vulnerable members of society has always affected me profoundly. Some of my earliest memories are associated with the frailty of old people, their gnarled hands, and the distinctive colours, fabrics, and perfumes’.
