Voltaire Perez was born in the Philippines in 1961, studied commercial arts and advertising, and since 1986 has been working in film animation. He started painting in 1997, after winning an Asian and Pacific poster design competition held in Seoul, South Korea. He lives in Cavite, near Manila. The artist comments: ‘The two children represent our future, and the background represents the changes in our environment. Painting the children in a realistic way should make the audience see its clear meaning the moment they see their faces and the colours. I did a black and white mood representing sadness, and the coloured section as a happy mood. I feel that through painting we can send a message and its meaning should be clear to everyone around us. We must remember that children’s dreams are made to come true’.
