THE INTERNATIONAL PRIZE WINNERS

THIRD PRIZE WINNER
IRAN
Rezvan Sadeghzadeh
Dialogue 1998
oil on canvas 104.5 x 79 cm
Exhibition Catalogue No. 104

Rezvan Sadeghzadeh was born in 1963, lives in Tehran, and studied at the Art University, Tehran. The painting shows a group of nine women by a stream in a landscape, their faces hidden by head scarves, each wearing an elegant and beautifully patterned garment. The picture has the feeling of a Persian miniature painting, revealing a precious, elegant poetic world. The stream, flattened out as a decorative feature of line, shape, and movement, effortlessly links the women, divides the land, and provides a colour contrast to it. The artist explains that the picture is a comment on the condition of Iranian women as well as an artistic experiment with a multi-figure composition where conventional space and volume are not registered.
