THAILAND
Sudjai Chaiyapan
The Way of Life from Imagination in the Year 2000 1999
oil and acrylic on canvas 78.5 x 103.4 cm
Exhibition Catalogue No. 228

Sudjai Chaiyapan was born in 1969, studied art at Silpakorn University and lives in Bangkok. The painting is symbolic of the impact of man on the world’s environment. The artist comments: ‘Continually developing technology affects humanity and nature. Man has used it extravagantly and there has been no awareness of the resulting effect. There are problems of pollution and overpopulation. The relationship between humans and nature is inseparable. When nature loses, it means the end of the world for mankind. A putrid landscape of death and decay is made up of undulating human forms. Trees have died long ago, as have the animals, whose bones lie scattered in large piles or poke through dank pools of polluted water. Humans are the only living elements, but there is nothing for them to be alive for’.
