INDEX || PREVIOUS || NEXT

Iwona Szewczyk was born in Poland in 1970, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Wroclaw, graduating last year. Her painting shows a distant, windswept panoramic landscape in fading light. Watercolour and ink are cleverly used to create a brooding atmosphere. The artist comments: ‘Nowadays the art of handwriting has been forced out by newly developed technology, which is more and more becoming a substitute for the traditional way of paper and pen. The availability of mass communication causes social contacts between people to become superficial and frail. The substance of the painting is based on a liturgical text. I want to express my admiration for the creative power of godly words and their influence on mankind’.
