Jona Gal Planinc, the son of an artist, was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1966, grew up in Groznjan, Istria, and studied at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1992. He lives and works in Ljubljana. His mixed media painting has been described as an arrangement of his memories ‘like dream-world treasures on a flat surface of the glowing night sky and the starry cosmos’ and as ‘an imaginary floating scene that has its roots in the art tradition of his family which he experienced with playful eyes, staring surprisedly at the starry night sky’.
