Yitzhak Greenfield was born in 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, USA, and came to Israel in 1951. He lives in Jerusalem, has exhibited in the USA, Canada, and Europe, and is represented in some of the world’s great museums. This painting is related to a series of over 150 acrylic paintings on themes and concepts from Jewish philosophy and Kabala. The artist comments: ‘Jerusalem is the city where the central dramas of the Jewish people unfolded, a city precious to Jews, Christians, and Moslems. My painting was inspired by the Hebrew alphabet of 22 basic letters. In my painting it is transformed into a quivering ladder of light, like Jacob’s dream of the ladder upon which the angels ascended and descended’. The artist describes his style as geometric mysticism.
